很喜歡唐澤壽明的 ”白色巨塔”, 當然也不會錯過最新的 ”不毛之地”. 姑且不論開局的倒敘歷史. 二戰由日本人口中講來, 侵略者與受害者的角色好像被不倫不類的對調. 幸好編劇作風明快, 羅生門歷史說了一集就快速轉入全劇重點: 商場鬥爭. 而且, 在片尾曲的選用上, 還丟給我一個大驚喜 – 那是多年沒聽的 Waltzing Matilda!
正確來說, 這首歌全名是 Tom Traubert’s Blues. 一般人比較耳熟能響的, 是 Rod Stewart 1992 年的翻唱版. Rod Stewart 嗓音特有的滄桑感, 配上美妙的旋律, 使整首歌像 Eagles 的 Desperado 一般, 適合在深夜四下無人時, 一個人靜靜聆聽, 特別有感覺.

呼… 好難翻譯的歌詞. Tom Waits 在 1976 年發表了這首歌後. 從沒好好解釋過涵義. 聽眾只知道 Waltzing Matilda 取自澳洲同名民謠, 是旅行的意思; Four sheets to the wind 是釐語 Three sheets to the wind (醉倒) 的加強版; Tom Waits 曾到過丹麥哥本哈根巡迴演唱. 所以, 有人猜 Tom Waits 在講述一段異國孤獨生活的日子, 有人猜Tom Waits 在回憶一段酒精中毒的歲月, 有人甚至斷言 Tom Waits 有自我毀滅的頃向.
就這樣, 懸案無解了 20 多年. 當然, 能寫出這麼有感覺的歌, 還有另一種可能: 就是費洛蒙作祟! 剛好丹麥當時有著一位女小提琴家, Mathilde Bondo. 所以圈子裡流傳著另一段解釋. 直到 20 多年後的 1998 年, 丹麥廣播電台主持人忍不住直接在節目中 Call Out 給 Mathilde, 一切才真相大白. 1976 年, Tom Waits 有到丹麥做電視節目, 合作的夥伴正是Mathilde Bondo, 談的來的兩個人在錄影後也續攤了很多夜店. 之後發生的, Mathilde 不肯說. 不過 Tom Waits 在專輯發表後, 寄了一份給 Mathilde, 紀念 “a good night out”.
我就說嘛… 除了女人, 還有什麼能讓一個不到 30 歲的小夥子如此掏心掏肺的唱歌? 不過 Tom 老大也真厲害, 這個移自澳洲民謠的 “Waltzing Matilda”, 除了 Matilda 音似 Mathilde, 還真是一點關係都沒有. 一個簡單的障眼法, 就誤導聽眾順著澳洲民謠的方向, 胡猜了 20 幾年. 公開傳情, 又沒讓隱私曝光. Tom, 你猛.
